ViVOtech provides NFC software, terminals for Visa payWave trial in Guatemala
US provider of Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile payment services ViVOtech provides the readers and software for a NFC payments trial launched by Visa in Guatemala last month.
ViVOtech’s technology has already been implemented in several NFC mobile trials around the world, enabling mobile phone payments, promotions and marketing programs. This 6-month trial is the first Visa payWave pilot in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Trial participants are able to make micro-payments at hundreds of retailers in the country. In order to pay for purchases, Visa cardholders wave their Visa payWave-enabled mobiles in front of NFC-enabled ViVOpay 5000 terminals installed at merchants participating in the program. Visa’s trial partners in Guatemala also include Compania de Procesamiento de Medios de Pago (Visanet Guatemala), Banco Industrial (Industrial Bank) and Banco Uno (Uno Bank). Over 200 Visa cardholders whose credit card data was transferred onto their mobile phone are participating in the program. Visa also plans to launch future pilots to test other functions such as mobile account management, as well as mobile alerts and coupons.
