Sagem Orga, The distribution of the e-health card can begin
The electronic health card from Sagem Orga (SAFRAN Group) is the first to be given official approval. That has been confirmed by gematik (Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte, the operating organization for telematics applications on the e-health card). As a result, Sagem Orga is now the only company that can make certified e-health cards available to health insurers for distribution, which is to begin soon.
The new Generation 1 of the e-health card can be used online and has highly secure encryption functions. In addition to testing the functional suitability of the cards, gematik also conducted performance tests. These tests demonstrate that all transactions associated with the use of the card are performed quickly and smoothly. The e-health card from Sagem Orga also passed the "interruption tests" necessary for approval. They ensure that the card can still be used normally following an interruption of the power supply.
The production facility at the German manufacturing site in Flintbek near Kiel has successfully implemented all required security measures and is ready to go. Sagem Orga supplies e-Health cards to leading German health insurers - the Techniker Krankenkasse, Innungskrankenkasse, Knappschaft and Landwirtschaftliche Krankenkasse.
"The certification is an expression of the continuous commitment of Sagem Orga and other industry partners to this important project", congratulated Cord Bartels, Technical Executive Director of the gematik, the company from Paderborn. "It is signalizing, that the industry is able to support the issuance of the health cards to all health insurers timely."
"We are very pleased to be the first and, so far, the only company to have received full approval for our Generation 1 e-health card. Our card product is thus ready and available for the launch of distribution in the North-Rhine region – as far as we are concerned, the initial distribution of the e-health card can begin," said Christopher Goulet, Head of Sales for Central and Eastern Europe, Banking, Health, ID at Sagem Orga.
The gradual introduction of the e-health card in Germany will begin in summer in the pilot region North-Rhine.
