Vietnams Techcombank Inks Pacific Airlines Deal

The Technological and Commercial Bank of Vietnam (Techcombank) on December 28 inked a deal to provide payment services for customers of Pacific Airlines.

Customers can pay for tickets via Techcombank transaction points or with Techcombank cards without having to go to the airport. The service will come into effect tomorrow.

The deal was the first step in developing e-commerce in the aviation sector of the bank, General Director of Techcombank Nguyen Duc Vinh said.

Pacific Airlines is using e-commerce voluntarily. We hope the deal will help us speed up development.

In making life easier for customers in this way, General Director of Pacific Airlines Luong Hoai Nam said he hoped the bank deal would encourage more people to use the airline.

We are going to boost expansion of domestic routes and flight numbers in the near future, thanks to this support from Techcombank, he said.

Nam also revealed that Pacific has signed another deal to buy an additional 10 planes. Half are expected to be delivered next year.

Techcombank estimates earning a gross profit of 700 billion VND (US$43.8 million) in 2007, an increase of 96 per cent over 2006. The bank also announced assets of 17.33 trillion VND (US$1.08 billion).

Techcombank is the first local bank to provide brokering services for coffee exporters to trade directly on the London robusta futures market
