VeriFone Integrates with POSitouch for Wireless Restaurant Payment

Date: 25/10/2007

VeriFone has teamed up with POSitouch to market the VeriFone ON THE SPOT mobile payment system with the POSitouch hospitality point-of-sale platform to North American restaurants. Separately, VeriFone says it has added Ruth's Chris Steak House in Austin, Texas to the roster of U.S. restaurants using ON THE SPOT.

According to VeriFone, ON THE SPOT is in use at over 30 restaurant brands. ON THE SPOT enables customers to pay for meals at their table using a handheld VeriFone Vx 670 card reader, without parting with their card. The wireless system is able to handle PIN-debit transactions as well as signature-based credit and debit card payments.

By allowing patrons to swipe their own cards rather than hand them to an employee, ON THE SPOT virtually eliminates the possibility of a server "skimming" a card and then cloning account information, VeriFone says. U.S. credit reference agency TransUnion estimates that 70 percent of all skimming takes place in a restaurant environment.

The POSitouch system, which is focused solely on the hospitality industry, has been installed in over 26,000 locations.

VeriFone says it will work with POSitouch to market the integrated On The Spot and POSitouch systems to the two vendors’ new and existing customers. The integration of the two platforms allows card transactions to take place at a restaurant table, at a car door following a drive-through order, or during a home delivery, VeriFone says.
