SuperCard to Develop Electronic Solutions

Mr. Femi Williams, the Managing Director of SuperCard, said Nigerian professionals are now used to develop world class electronic solutions.

Williams said that from SuperCard’s token beginning of providing innovative electronic solutions to higher institutions and corporate entities, its activities have soared to become one of the best developers of software electronic solutions thereby, it is one of the potent companies that makes use of indigenous professionals to develop world class electronic solutions.

The managing director explained that the company commenced its pilot scheme at two higher institutions namely the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology.

According to him, it was a pioneering effort to provide the nation with a genuine and common identification for students in tertiary institutions to have a well packaged welfare scheme for Nigerian students.

“The care activity of the project is to generate a secure, credible, fail-safe information data-base and systems that would be able to create secure, fraud proof identification process,” he said.

SuperCard as a full fledged information technology company focuses on the identification and smart cards technology whole also solving challenges as it sees it in the market and pioneering some of the technological advancement in the country including health activities examination records for students and payment on the same card.

Williams, however, said that its innovations are not common in the country as it does not possess the off-shelf packages while at the same time, understudying the market to evolve solutions to each challenge it identifies.

He explained that supercard technology is experienced in Ghost worker solutions for states and has the best experience in biometrics technology.

According to him, it works for states to determine work force, workers on the payroll and the identification process, which is multi-application in nature to banks Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Identity Card scheme.

Williams also talked about another product tagged the Smart ID Project, which is a multi application process that can be used for payment, identification of health activities and access control, a product developed locally.

He explained that the Smart ID Solution is an application of smartcard technology to solving challenges of tertiary institutions, as well as, students in the institutions and corporate bodies.

His words, “the problems this card addresses are poor management poor funding lack of access to scholarly papers, journals and research materials, cultism and ghost student syndrome, and examination malpractices.

“The smart card technology is used in five areas, which are smart status, Internet access, financial, health insurance and access control,” he said.

Another product talked about is the Right-sizing-project. According to him, the product is for government and states parastatals, which is for eliminating duplications or irregular enrolees in government to save a lot of money.

Additionally, he said, supercard has identified the weeds of institutions that need closed payment system. Williams added that supercard has a specialised Software Development Unit that manages the whole gamut of task involved in card life ordering data preparation, information management during card production, quality assurance, security inventory, delivery of cards.

The managing director, however, said that the challenges of SuperCard are enormous stating that like any other environment, the company is operating in it to survive.

To him, there are no appropriate skills in electronic development while a lot of funds are spent on Managing Skills adding that the company spends a lot of money to bring people up.

He is also of the view that the electronic payment system in he country will still boam as a lot of huge transactions are recorded.

He now advised that Federal Government to build the infrastructure and communications sector and improve on the electricity supply, envisaging that the electronic payment system will get to the rural areas as GSM advent.
