Smartpay Launches Pax Terminal Range
SmartPay, New Zealand's leading merchant services provider, today announced it will begin delivery of the PAX range of EFTPOS terminals and related products.
Smartpay has been developing software to meet the latest Paymark security specifications on the PAX hardware platform ready for the April launch. China-based PAX is the fifth largest EFTPOS terminal supplier in the Asia Pacific markets, producing more than 300,000 units per annum.
Ian Bailey, SmartPay Managing Director, says PAX was an obvious choice of partner due to its size, expertise and ability to innovate with market-leading hardware solutions.
"We did a lot of research and found the standard of performance and reliability of PAX terminals, as well as support from the factory, set PAX apart. Our strategy is to provide both an ever-widening range of products and services that meet merchants' needs by helping them to run their businesses more efficiently. PAX products will help us to do this.
"A prime example of PAX innovation is the integrated contactless card reader, used in international public transport systems such the Octopus Card in Hong Kong, and the UK's Oyster Card."
The contactless card reader will also be used in New Zealand as part of Wellington City's Snapper Card solution for Total Mobility, says Bailey.
"SmartPay is the only merchant services company in New Zealand to offer this contactless technology and we are working with Snapper to implement their system into our products."
Through the PAX agreement SmartPay will offer customers a wider range of EFTPOS hardware - including S80 counter tops, SP30 pin pads, S90 mobile, S90 Wi-Fi - and software at the forefront of compliance and security standards.
Other products from the PAX range will be introduced to the market as required, says Bailey.
"It is our intention to lead the market in payment card industry (PCI) compliance, and working with specialist partners such as PAX will help us achieve this ambition. Providing end-to-end confidence in security and compliance is one less thing for our busy merchant customers to worry about. "
The release of PAX products allows SmartPay's engineering team to focus on enhancing its value-added services as opposed to the development of what is now commoditised terminal hardware.
"We will supplement our existing hardware platform with other terminal suppliers' products as required to meet customer needs. Our focus is on software development and developing a unique range of services for our customers.
"As our business grows, we continue to look for ways to add value to our merchant offering and build long term relationships with our customers, either by developing new services, or partnering with new providers.
"The recent purchase of the Postilion software and implementation of an industrial grade transactional switch has boosted our transaction processing capability, providing a fully compliant PCI-DSS platform, enabling us to offer new and innovative services to our customers.
"These developments, combined with a leading manufacturer like PAX gives SmartPay the opportunity to offer customers both choice and enhanced innovation."
