SmartTrust Certifies 100th WIB(TM) SIM Card
SmartTrust, a developer of MDM and SIM management software for mobile operators, today announced that it has successfully completed certification of a WIB™ SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card from Prism Payment Technologies, making it the 100th SIM card to receive certification under the program. Prism is one of 21 manufacturers of SIM cards taking advantage of the SmartTrust certification program.
Cards certified through the SmartTrust program support SmartTrust WIB, a smart card-based application environment, and are fully interoperable with the SmartTrust OTA server which helps wireless operators easily develop and rapidly deploy SIM-based value added services to their subscribers. More than one billion SIM cards containing SmartTrust WIB have been manufactured and distributed.
Through SmartTrust's certification program, smart card vendors can ensure their implementations of SmartTrust WIB are compliant and supported by the SmartTrust Delivery Platform. Prism, which has achieved SmartTrust certification for numerous other WIB implementations, recently certified its Prism WIB 1.3 uSIMetrix Java card.
"We at Prism have participated in SmartTrust's Certified Program from its inception and extend our congratulations to them on this achievement," said David Kaplen, product manager at Prism Payment Technologies. "We believe the SmartTrust certification is proof of the quality of our products, which satisfy the market demand for quality-assured card solutions. The success of WIB technology and SmartTrust's certification program is testament to the value these products add to vendors and mobile service providers alike. It comes as no surprise that SmartTrust has become the world's leading Smart Card-based interpreter execution environment."
SIM cards with the SmartTrust WIB installed not only execute operator commands sent to the SIM over-the-air, but it also allow operators to build and remotely maintain a portfolio of SIM-resident services designed around SIM Toolkit (STK). The SmartTrust WIB specification has become the cornerstone of dynamic STK services as varied as mobile banking, entertainment and subscriber self-care.
With 61 certified SIM cards utilizing WIB version 1.3, SmartTrust recently introduced WIB 2.0 in an effort to build on the success of its widely used platform. WIB 2.0 strengthens the ability for mobile Internet and WIB application developers to build more sophisticated Dynamic SIM Toolkit (DSTK) value added services that meet today's needs for revenue-generating applications. WIB 2.0 combines the benefits of mature technologies such as a Java, SMS, cell broadcast, Bearer Independent Protocol (BIP) and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) to support a platform for emerging and next-generation DSTK services.
"We introduced WIB in 1999 and have seen the world quickly embrace this unique technology," said Jeff Bork, CEO, SmartTrust. "The rapid and widespread adoption of WIB speaks highly to the value it brings the industry and the continuously growing base of mobile users around the world. We have continued to build on our knowledge and experience to further evolve a platform that plays a critical role in helping service providers increase revenue."
