Labels
Labels which contain a chip as an information carrier, and which can be read and inscribed using transponder technology.
Lamination
Traditional procedure for making plastic cards, using plates on a press to fuse the various layers of PVC sheets together.
LAN
Local Area Network.
Layout
The organization of dedicated and elementary files in the smart card’s EEPROM.
LDAP
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, a lightweight version of the DAP protocol
LEDS
Infrared Light
Lifecycle
The time between the issuance and the cancellation of a smart card.
Linear file
A type of file in an ISO 7816-4 smart card file system that contains records. The records in a linear file may be fixed length or variable length.
Linux
An Open Source operating system that is derived from UNIX.
Loyalty Program
A product-marketing scheme that entices customers to purchase the product repeatedly by offering rewards based on the frequency of purchase. Also known as frequent buyer programs or, from its airline origin, frequent flyer programs
