KBA-Metronic makes its presence felt on the Asian market
The booming “card” sector of the market meets the up-and-coming global giant that is “Asia” - and when two growth markets collide, you can be sure that sparks will fly. The card market is one of the product segments that offers the greatest potential for growth. The world is seeing a rapid rise in the number and range of cards used for example in cashless payment transactions, while prepaid cards for telephone services are also taking on increasing importance.
KBA-Metronic will have a presence at two major shows in the first half of 2007. The first of these is Cards Asia, held in Suntec, Singapore, from April 25 – 27, 2007, where the company will be exhibiting Universys, the modular “all-in-one” personalization system (stand no. 4 E01).
The Universys personalization system
The Universys is a modular “all-in-one” personalization system that can be manufactured for specific practical requirements. The Universys is used worldwide to personalize and individualize plastic and paper cards such as prepaid cards, scratch-off cards, customer cards, bonus system cards etc. Various modules are available for user-specific configuration: input module, rotation module for landscape and portrait formats, inkjet printer incl. code camera, hot stamping module (including rotary module for high throughput), outfeed module (optional with inspection camera for scratch-off fields), labeling module, magnetic strip encoder and magnetic strip reader. For the printing module the user can choose either a continuous inkjet printer (alphaJET C) or a drop-on-demand printer.

Flexible and user-friendly
The advantages of the system are familiar to a large number of users. The unique, waterless UV printing units simplify day-to-day work enormously. The brilliant, abrasion-resistant inks are instantly dry, enabling downstream finishing processes to be performed immediately. Intelligent printing technology with unique, keyless inking units simplifies handling and slash both time and costs. That also makes the work of offset newcomers a whole lot easier, because many of the known hard-to-master parameters of conventional offset printing are eliminated.
The OC 200, the single-card offset printer
The OC 200 is blazing the trail in the minimum-size and single-card printing segment. All standard plastics and cards with chip grooves can be printed without a problem – and that at a thickness of up to 1.2 mm. The modular design of the OC 200 allows the system to be adapted to the order structure as required and supplemented at little additional cost. Examples include additional printing units for special inks or a turning unit for double-sided printing.
The Genius 52UV, the sheet offset printer
A wide range of materials, including plastic, lenticular films, card and paper, can be printed in standard 36 x 52 cm format with the compact Genius 52UV, which has a footprint of only 12m2. The Genius 52UV can produce photorealistic print qualities at up to 8,000 sheets/hour thanks to the short makeready times and low start-up wastage.
