Ingenico and the Payment Industry Celebrate Contactless Success at McDonald’s Restaurant

Date: 30/05/2011

Ingenico today announces the celebration of a collaborative effort with Vendorcom, The Cards & Payments Community, holding a business networking event at the McDonald’s Head Office restaurant in London on the 18th of May.

McDonald’s hit the headlines in January with its plans for a nationwide rollout of contactless payments throughout 2011 in the UK. The Head Office restaurant in East Finchley has already gone live with contactless and, thanks to IBM, Ingenico and Visa Europe, the Vendorcom event gave the cards and payments industry a unique chance to test it out.

Paul Rodgers, Chairman of Vendorcom remarked: “We’re proud to say that our members have a very good track record of collaborating to bring new initiatives to market and the long expected roll‐out of contactless payments is no exception. This particular project has demonstrated an inspiring level of industry collaboration with IBM, Ingenico, STS Payments, Visa Europe, WorldPay, and McDonald’s working closely together to ensure its success. We think that this is worth celebrating!”

Craig Doyle, Managing Director NER, Ingenico said, “Ingenico is delighted to have partnered with McDonald’s, WorldPay and IBM to bring contactless acceptance to its restaurants across the whole of the UK. This joint initiative should act as a springboard for UK‐wide contactless usage becoming mainstream, rather than limited to regional areas. We welcome this revolution in payments.”

The Vendorcom networking event attracted attendees from across the cards and payments industry ‐ card schemes, acquirers, processors, systems integrators, solutions providers, terminal manufacturers, QSAs, consultancies and, of course, merchants.
