Gemalto, Precise Biometrics to deliver biometrics-enabled smart cards
Dutch digital security company Gemalto has teamed up with fingerprint recognition for smart cards technology provider Precise Biometrics to launch the Gemalto.NET Bio.
The new product allows companies to replace their network security technology based on static passwords with Gemalto.NET Bio, a strong authentication service which uses a combination of Gemalto’s .NET smart cards and the Match-on-Card fingerprint biometric technology from Precise. Gemalto.NET Bio integrates into Microsoft Windows environments.
Traditionally, strong user authentication is achieved by using PIN-enabled smart cards and tokens. Gemalto.NET Bio allows users to employ three alternative identity verification methods: via fingerprints instead of using a PIN, using either fingerprints or a PIN and using both fingerprints and a PIN. The Precise Match-on-Card technology stores and verifies users’ fingerprint information directly on the Gemalto .NET smart cards, without the information being stored in a database outside the card itself, for security reasons.
