ANZ Launches First Aussie Reloadable, Contactless Card in Australia
ANZ has teamed up with Visa to launch the first reloadable, prepaid contactless card in Australia. The ANZ Stadium Visa payWave card will be offered initially to 2,000 members of the ANZ Stadium in Sydney for use during the Bledisloe Cup on July 26.
Cardholders can pay for purchases under A$35 (US$33.67) without the need for a PIN or signature, by holding their card within five centimeters of a contactless reader.
To mark the launch of the ANZ Stadium card, Visa will load the cards with A$25 to allow cardholders to purchase food and beverages at selected terminals within the members’ areas.
“The ANZ Stadium card is designed to improve the customer experience at major events,” Chris Clark, Visa’s General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, says. “The shorter the transaction times, the shorter the lines and the sooner sports fans can return to the game.”
The Visa payWave-enabled cards contain an antenna and an embedded chip which transmits payment instructions to and from a specially adapted card reader. They can be reloaded with funds via Internet or telephone banking.
In addition, the cards have a magnetic stripe so they can be used as Visa prepaid cards at merchant outlets outside of ANZ Stadium.
